Paramedic
The EMT-Paramedic is the highest level of training in the pre-hospital setting. They are trained in the use of complex medical equipment, such as EKGs, and are capable of administering medication drugs both orally and intravenously. You must be an EMT-Basic for a minimum of 2 years to apply.

EMT-Basic-Groton
An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is a trained professional who responds to emergency medical situations, such as car accidents, fires, or other types of emergencies. Students must be a minimum of 18 years old. This course will be held at Survival Systems in Groton, CT and will include an in-water component. The course will run on Monday, Wedensday, and Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm beginning September 8, 2010 and ending on December 21,2010. The final practical exam will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 8:30 am at our Norwich location. EMT-Basic Refresher
This 40-hr program is for individuals who currently have a EMT-Basic Certification from the State of Connecticut and or Rhode Island.
EMT-Cardiac/Paramedic Refresher
This 52-hr program is for individuals who currently have a EMT-Cardiac Certification from the State Rhode Island, or is a current Paramedic. Meets all state requirements. ACLS is included in these classes.
Emergency Medical Responder
Learn to provide BLS (Basic Life Support) assistance, as an Emergency Medical Responder, to those who live or visit your community. Students must be a minimum of 16 years old. At the conclusion of this program you will be eligible for your State of CT Exam.
PHTLS
The PHTLS Provider course is designed to be an intensive 16-20 hour experience. It is available to all levels of prehospital care providers, and programs are typically attended by Emergency First Responders (Fire, Police, Search & Rescue, etc.), EMTs, Paramedics, Nurses (including Industrial based Occupational Health Nurses), Physicians, and Physician Assistants.
The course is scenario-based, with lectures and interactive skills to further develop the critical thinking skills required to effectively treat the trauma patient in the field.
PHTLS Refresher Course
The PHTLS Refresher course is designed to be an 8-hour workshop and incorporates interactive teaching sessions and evaluation stations. Candidates who wish to participant in a refresher course must have successfully completed a PHTLS or BTLS provider course within the last 4 years prior to the course.
AMLS — Advanced Medical Life Support
Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) is an education program sponsored of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT). The program is endorsed by the National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP). This program is for all levels of healthcare practitioners committed to providing quality care for patients in medical crisis. AMLS is the first course that offers a "think-outside-the-box" method of assessing and managing a patient in medical crisis.
It emphasizes using scene size up, interactive group discussion on potential treatment strategies, history, and probabilities in diagnosing a patient's medical problem. AMLS implements an initial assessment-based approach that progresses to a diagnostic-based approach to develop a treatment plan for a specific medical condition.
AMLS is a sixteen (16) hour, two-day program that consists of interactive lectures, teaching and evaluation stations. The interactive/case based lectures include the following topics: Patient Assessment, Airway Management, , Assessment of the Shock Patient, Dyspnea/Respiratory Failure, Chest Pain, altered Mental Status, and Abdominal Pain. Teaching stations follow the associated lectures each day.
AMLS is accredited by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS) and is recognized by the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT). Students who successfully complete the AMLS course will receive a certificate of completion that is valid for four years.
