This training program is designed to prepare individuals with the entry level skills and knowledge needed to perform nursing assistant duties, as well as prepare them to sit for the state certification exam. Upon successful completion of the state certification exam, the C.N.A. will be placed on the state certified nursing assistant registry. This can be the first step to a career in the medical field. All individuals who wish to be employed as a nursing assistant and want to work in a health care facility in Connecticut must complete an approved nursing assistant training program and then pass a state certification exam.
The program consists of 146 hours of training – 90 classroom hours and 56 clinical hours training in hands-on practice in a skills lab and/or field experience in a nursing facility. Topics covered include Basic Nursing Skills, Resident's Rights, Infection Control, Personal Care Skills, Safety and Emergency Procedures, Rehabilitative Services and Mental Health and Social Services needs.
